Bubbl.us and MindNode | simple online mind map tools

Many people believe that Mind Mapping is the easiest way to get thoughts out of your head and then organized into a series of next steps to complete a project.

I was skeptical at first because I did not understand what a mind map was and it just sounded like something mystical that weird people tried who did not know how to write an outline. I was wrong.

After using a mind map to figure out next steps for a very complicated project, I have become a fan of the process. Basically all that is involved is starting with the main thought in a box or bubble in the center, writing out all of your brainstormed ideas and steps around it connected by lines, and then organizing those steps and eliminating ideas that are unneeded. This creates your action steps or process for the project.

This process makes brainstorming simple, but also provides a visual to make it easy to write out an outline of steps to complete the project from the brainstormed ideas.

My problem was that I did not want to write it out on paper, I wanted to do it all online. I found two tools that can help you do this.

I like Bubbl.us and have started using it for my mind mapping brainstorm sessions. It is bubble based so you can make bubble boxes around all of your ideas automatically. It also lets you save and download your creation as a .jpg picture file which I really like. Another one that people seem to like that is online and available for Mac download is MindNode.com. I have not used it, but a lot of people are using it and really like it.
