episode #11 :: More customization of your website using WordPress website hosting
One of the main benefits to getting wordpress website hosting to setup your website is that it is much more flexible for your website uses and needs in the future. If you setup a free www.wordpress.com or www.blogger.com website and then want to change from using the blogger or wordpress software to a more traditional or flash website you have no control to be able to do that.
Now I will say that I am a complete convert and believer in using the self-hosted version of WordPress to power almost everything on the websites I create. It can even be used to create membership websites using a plugin called Wishlist Member. It is not free, but is inexpensive [under $100] and is the easiest and most effective way to setup a membership website using WordPress in my opinion. Check it out here.
But maybe at some point you decide that you want to do something different with your free blog converting it from www.blogger.com and turning it into an actual functioning website. You cannot do it without purchasing website hosting because you are locked into the Blogger system. But with a website that you host yourself you can change it to anything you want.
Even if you start with a simple self-hosted version of WordPress and a free WordPress theme that you learned how to setup from my wordpress video tutorials, you can always have someone create an entirely new site without WordPress and the only difference your website visitors would see is the look of the site.
Free and simple is wonderful if all you need is a basic version of a website or blog. That may be all you need right now at this moment. But if you setup your site on a system that cannot grow and change with you in the future you are setting yourself up for a headache.
